| Under the Ontario Heritage Act, a
municipality must declare " reasons for designation " when declaring a property
to be of historic and/or architectural value under the Act. Each
Committee
must create a framework of " reasons for designation " to guide the choice of
properties or areas designated in a municipality. These criteria will be based on advice
and literature provided by the Ontario Ministry of Culture and other MHCs in the
province.

considered worthy for designation for some of the following reasons: |

- an activity or endeavour of relative antiquity

| As specified in the Ontario Heritage Act, any
real property may be designated. Therefore, battlefields, bridges, cemeteries, park
fences, gates, millponds, wells, markers, trees, paths, roadways, planned landscaping such
as gardens and natural features such as ravines, streams and ponds may be designated if
they are of significant heritage value. |
| Arnprior's Municipal Heritage
Committee is currently developing a point
rating system and detailed form to help in determining heritage significance and
designation worthiness. |
